Legal Intern – Licensing & Technology Group

Supported a team of 30 Cisco lawyers responsible for licensing and technology transactions for Cisco's 40 business units. Projects and responsibilities included researching case law, drafting memos, and reviewing, editing, and negotiating licensing agreements. Highly praised by senior attorneys for efficiency and going "above and beyond" expectations while processing open source licensing requests.

  • Researched and evaluated Software Development Kit (SDK) licenses including ones for Cisco, Intel, IBM, Microsoft and Apple. Compared and contrasted the licensing terms and conditions in a memo and oral briefing for senior attorneys.
  • Evaluated and recommended approval for numerous GPL, BSD, MIT, Mozilla, Apache, and Oracle open source software licensing requests for software engineers through Cisco’s open source request tool.
  • Edited and negotiated incoming evaluation licensing agreements.
  • Researched articles and created playbook materials on nondisclosure agreements and trade secrets.
  • As part of due diligence, summarized terms and obligations in software licensing and escrow agreements held by a company recently acquired by Cisco.
